After-school golf program

Last year right before Christmas, I played a round of golf at the golf course up the hill from here.  I saw a flyer which said "Free Junior Golf".  Wow!!!  I had to get more information when it said FREE!

Well, the Junior Golf after-school program is sponsored by the Los Angeles County.  We got done with 2 weeks of free junior golf last week. The golf course - Chester Washington GC is about 45 minutes away.  So we would eat a few snack on the way there and on the 1-hr drive home, the boys watch a DVD.  We were definitely down to a routine after a couple of days!  Charlie did have a few naps along the way as well.  What a tired bear!
By the way, Chester Washington GC was on Charlie Sifford Drive.  I was obviously oblivious to who this person/icon was!  Charlie Sifford was the first African American to play on the PGA Tour and this is where he practiced.  Too cool!  Who knew coming out to this golf course would also a history lesson for Graham and Charlie:
Okay, photo time!
Wait... let's try that again. Couldn't see Graham's face at that time. Wait... now Charlie is goofing around!?!
Okay, I guess this is our best for now:
All the kids were divided into the younger group and the older group.  There were probably around 10-12 kids in the younger crowd.  A couple of high-school kids were coaches during the week.  The boys (sort of) listened, at least more so than when I would try and teach them!
Here are some snapshots of the boys' swings.  First is Graham - he still has problems keeping his feet grounded.  He says he has "so much power"!
Somehow Charlie's golf swing got shorter and shorter.  Hmm...
At this rate, at least they are both enjoying themselves!  Here is Graham trying to instruct Charlie :-)
Somehow I can't seem to find Graham's golf swing video but here is Charlie's:
Charlie was actually swinging it really well by the end of the 2nd week!  I guess now I have to actually take them out once a week or so perhaps to keep them interested.  So 3 days straight of hitting, chipping, and putting, and then on Thursday, the kids will have a putting competition.

Here is one video of Charlie putting.  So cute how he "drew" the line of his putt!  He didn't do it for all his putts but funny I caught him doing it during this one :-)
Graham actually won the putting competition for all the younger kids' group!  Here he is putting with Matthew in a playoff.  In the video, Matthew is already putting out his 3rd putt and Graham 2-putts for his first win.  Fist pump!!!
Yay!!! Proud Mommy moment :-)
Charlie asked why he didn't win a medal.  He said he had some 2-putts, and 3-putts, and also 4-putts. Looks like we will definitely need to work on a few things :-D
