No more mouse?

I don't want to jinx it yet, but so far there has been no evidence of any mice since discovering the "souvenir" that the mouse (or mice) left a couple of weeks ago.  We have about 3 bait and 2 traps in the kitchen.  One of the bait was eaten on the first day it was put out:

... and then I realized there was a hole near the kitchen that wasn't sealed. How could I forget that!

So since that hole had been taped up, so far so good??!  I can't believe the mouse even took a chunk out of Charlie's handmade soap!

So I had to chuck that out.  Thankfully he still has his soap-making kit.  I read online that mice don't like chili pepper, so I've decided to spread some of that around as well on our countertop:
So far, I've had to changed the bait in the mouse traps a few times but still no takers! I've put the traps by the bread box and I'm not sure if these traps have malfunctioned as two of them had reset with no mice caught? Really weird because these traps worked wonders the first time when I bought them two years ago:
Well, fingers crossed maybe the mice have moved on over to the neighbors - just like last year. LOL! I did buy some outdoor bait too but I'd hate to have the mice die somewhere outside.  Blah! And worse yet, if a cats eat the mouse and then the cat dies.  That would be terrible!  I knew I should have bought the traditional "snap" traps but Charlie said, "What if we step on them?".  Hmm... maybe this is why I go shopping alone :-p
