Bodyboarding

We are off to the beach for bodyboarding for the first time!  We decided on Cabrillo Beach this past Saturday, as the waves are a bit smaller there.  But first... setting up this new sun-umbrella was quite the task.  The wind kept blowing it off so it was a trial and error.  Hmm... 30-45 minutes later???! TA DA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh! We saw a seal in the water that day!  Didn't get a chance to take a photo of it but after a while, the life guard was out and about closeby:
Graham has had some practice with the bodyboard in the pool and also past experience at Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi.  He was handling it really well!
There were the occasional wipe-outs.  So much sand here somehow!  Okay... I mean, I know we are on the beach but I don't recall Redondo beach being so mirky/messy.  As you can see, lots of kelp by the shoreline too!
Charlie had a few meltdowns starting out.  He kept wanting to wait for the PERFECT wave.  He was a bit afraid of the bigger waves especially when it would come crashing in.  I asked him to come closer to shore but he didn't want to do that either.  So I sent him back to the umbrella:
After a few minutes of sulking and some food, he finally went out again and did so much better!  Somehow, this just reminded me of a potential Snickers chocolate bar advertisement. Ha ha!
Both Graham and Charlie could not get enough.  Back to shore, back into the water... back to shore, back into the water.  Repeated like a gazillion times!!!
And Momma is just relaxing under the umbrella.  Here is my view :-)  And so glad the sun was going in the correct direction so we were shaded all day:
And extra SUPER glad the umbrella stayed put on the ground and didn't fly off and impale anyone! Thumbs-up from Momma!!!
What a fun day on the beach!  Talk about soaking in the California experience :-)
