Clay project

We decided to have some fun with clay this past week.  We've been making some planters. These are just air-dry clay so it's been nice not having to put them in the oven.  But it's been rather cold outside so the clay has been cracking during the drying process.  Nooo..!!  Thankfully it's just a matter of dumping more clay and slip (mixture of clay and water) on the cracked spots.

I have no idea how Graham is not cold on the back patio:

Graham is busy engraving letters based on the Mesopotamia times. He learned this "Cuneiform" of writing in school:
Charlie and I are attempting to make a fox, based on a online tutorial:
I think it's looking like a fox? I do love the patterns he has done on it:
My fox looks like it's going to topple over.  Ha ha!
Graham didn't want to make a planter but made a little bowl instead:
And yesterday, we decided to continue making a few more items.  I tried to make an elephant.  Maybe??!
It basically doubles as a eyeglass holder.  And I put some holes in those ears so you can put earrings on it.  And you can also use the trunk as a ring holder.  Hopefully it will dry properly and these parts won't crack when being handled!
Charlie made a little pencil holder:
He loves putting (indenting) all these patterns on it.  Neat!
And he added a flower on top so the pencils don't topple over.  It's almost like one of those toothbrush holders:
Hopefully everything will come together once we have it all painted.  Will keep you all posted!
