Happy 9th Birthday, Charlie! (July 31)

Charlie is 9 years old!  He's been waiting a long time for his birthday.  As usual, he has to wait for Graham's birthday in mid  May, then a week later it's Bobby's, and then another 1.5 weeks later it's mine.  And then finally after 1.5 months, it's finally his birthday.  Woohoo!!!

Of course, we never plan when it comes time for the cake.  This time, he wanted a rice krispies with chocolate frosting.  I decided to make our own chocolate frosting.  It was one that I had previously used for a friend's birthday cake. Yummm....! But first, Charlie opens up the birthday card from Grandma and Pop-pop.  Woah, $9 for the 9th birthday boy. Who is so lucky!

Here's the "cake"!
Graham is looking a little annoyed here.  Maybe because those lit candles kept going out because of the wind:
Graham is so funny - he went back inside and got himself a fork.  Ha!
Charlie, on the other hand is just shoving his face with the cake. LOL!!!
Nothing like loading ourselves with chocolate and sugar before archery:
Charlie's form is improving after each session:
Here's a quick video (this was before getting their own personal bow):
He's so excited when he gets in the yellow:
After archery, it was time to open presents.  We didn't get a chance to do it at home earlier:
As per usual, we always buy the boys some sort of book.  This time we went with another author that was sort of like Shel Silverstein.  The book is called "Upside Down" by C.G. Metz.  Hope he likes it!
We also bought Charlie an entire collection of "How to Train your Dragon" books:
He hasn't been too enthusiastic about reading them despite being so excited when he got them. Hopefully that will change in time.  But Charlie was definitely over the moon when he saw the Lego!
And he personally requested the pottery wheel:
While the boys and I were doing archery, Daddy went out to get some food and also picked up an entire tray of corn bread:
Charlie ended up digging a hole inside of the pie. Whaaat??! Only because it is his birthday today:
Okay, time to go home.  We decided to take Charlie to a French restaurant.  It was the same restaurant that Bobby and I had date night a few months ago.  Unfortunately, their reservations were full so we had to have a super early dinner at 5pm!  So not long after getting into the house, we all took a quick shower and headed back out again. Charlie was not happy when we had to interrupt his Lego building session:
But that changed quickly when we all sat at our table at the restaurant.  Cheeky monkey!
Looks like Daddy polished the French Onion soup!
Family we-fie!  Happy Birthday Charlie!!!
I decided to try the duck today.  I can' remember what else we ordered now.  Hmmm... oh, the cheese fondue was not what I had expected so that was just so so.  I remember now, Daddy ordered steak and split that with the boys. No one wanted anything to do with my duck leg.  Ha ha!
I got off my chair to take another photo and realized that there was a traffic sign right by our table.  Ha!  Yeah, almost all the restaurants have expanded their outdoor seating into the street:
Free crème brulee, courtesy of the restaurant for Charlie's birthday.  And of course, we had to order the chocolate mousse too.  Yummy!!! I'm not sure why Charlie made this face.  Ha ha!
And Graham ordered a lemon tart.  It was very tart indeed!
Phew! Talk about stuffed and tired!  Although, I just realized there was one more present for Charlie.  It's a Angel's baseball jersey.  He is obviously very happy with it:
It's too bad the boys don't play baseball anymore.  Maybe archery will be their thing :-)
Happy birthday, Charlie!  He's getting so big so fast! He now weighs as much as Graham (88lbs) and probably only has one more inch before he catches up to Graham in height (4ft 5in).  He does have a terrible temper though, so it will be something we need to work on.  That, and speaking nicely to all of us, especially to his brother!

We have decided that it will be best for Charlie to stay home and do another year of Distance Learning at home while this Covid pandemic is still going on.  Hopefully school will go well. We've committed to at least 2 trimesters.  Charlie doesn't seem to mind it. I did tell him that he will be able to sleep in an hour more than his brother.  The school bell will ring for Graham at 7:15am at his new middle school.  YIKES!!!
