Graham's 1st Day of School

After lots of debate, we finally decided to let Graham go back to school in person this school year.  He was definitely one happy 6th Grader!  Today was Picture Day too so Graham was nicely dressed.  Otherwise, it's normally just a regular T-shirt and shorts :-)

We actually opted for Distance Learning but the District came back and said there wasn't enough interest from other parents.  Boooo... and we didn't want to do Independent Study as that disassociate him from his new middle school.  So, our choices were pretty limited at this point.  But with that said, Graham was so excited to be at school again eventhough he didn't recognize anyone from his previous elementary school.

By the way, I also just found out today that there are no hats/caps on campus during school hours, except for PE.  Whaaat??!  I understand the part about not wearing hats in the classroom but none whatsoever any other time on campus? Graham was just complaining about sitting in the sun during an assembly this morning!  I might have to do some more research on this one.

On the other hand, the lockers are generously sized and Graham said the gym lockers are even bigger!
We had bought his locker padlocks a week or so ahead of time so he has had plenty of time practicing with opening them.  I decided to spray paint the sides of the lock since almost all the locks look the same.  So far so good on that. We dropped off all his textbooks in his locker over the weekend and even cleaned it out prior.  Phew... so one less thing to worry about.

On the other hand, Bob and I dropped Graham off this morning and O... M... G... traffic was horrendous!  What normally takes us about 5 minutes, took us almost 20 minutes today!
We might actually just walk to school, although it is literally ALL UPHILL from the house.  Ha!  Needless to say, that would be excellent exercise :-D

As for Charlie... here is what his day looked like today:
The School District is still trying to assign teachers for Distance Learning, so until that gets sorted out (supposedly by end of this week) - Charlie will have no official instruction until then.  Looks like his summer holidays just got extended by a few days.  And as you can see, Charlie is taking full advantage of it with TV and popcorn.  LOL!!!

Here's to a great school year for Graham and fingers crossed that Covid instances will be minimal at his school (yeah, I'm already thinking there's going to be cases).  We are planning on testing him every week.  Hopefully it will just become routine for him (and probably for us too).
