Memorial Day weekend in San Fran

San Francisco... here we come!  We decided to do a little road trip up to San Francisco.  Bob had a job interview scheduled there for Tuesday so we thought, why not have a little family vacation during this long weekend.  Good thing most of the traffic was going into LA and not leaving LA:
The landscape changes so quickly. Beyond those clouds, it actually got chilly in the mountains! I say mountains... it was over 4,000ft if I am not mistaken:
The boys know how to relax in the minivan now:
Graham and his stuffed giraffe named "Fluffy":
STINKY COWS!!!!
This truck actually stopped at the same gas station as we did and so I had to ask what his load was.  Garbanzo beans!
The boys are always so busy during gas stops!
Great job but the car actually gets extra filthy will all the extra water drips. Ha ha!
Random dust!!!  A brief reminder of Abu Dhabi :-D
Not sure what happened here. Random fire?
So much farmland here.  We saw lots of vineyard and cherry trees and I think almond trees as well.
We spot a couple trucks of onions.  Wow, you can actually smell the onions even with the air conditioning on!
We stop along the street at the fruit stand to buy some strawberries and cherries. There were massive watermelons that Graham couldn't even pick up.  Should have taken that photo!
We stay overnight at my friends' house in San Jose.  Both husband and wife, whom I have known since my freshman year in college were able to accommodate all 4 of us in their home on a short notice.  The kids had so much fun playing at their home especially playing on the drums! Glad their neighbors didn't complain :-D
The next day, we are off to Piedmont.  My friend's sister and her husband, who are also Arizona State graduates - whom I have also known since my Freshman year in college, are having a BBQ street party.  We take a few detours and find some pretty houses.  Wow!
Once we get to the house, the kids get busy with water guns.  Both Graham and Charlie were completely soaked!  Good thing we have a suitcase of clothes:
At least someone eventually got some food in their system:
Our not-so-little-anymore Charlie:
And then, there was a boo-boo moments (see bandage on left knee).  Thankfully Daddy whipped out his phone and all was well!
Graham had a go at this interesting looking skate-board.  It was really tricky!  Maybe something for the next birthday???!
Here is the gang! Oh, forgot to mention - we are all Malaysian :-)
After the BBQ, we head over to the bay for an overnight in the Financial District.  Crossing the new Bay Bridge which is currently the world's widest bridge according to the Guiness World Records.  And from what I am reading, the bridge has a final price tag of $6.5 billion (with a 'B'), a 2,500% cost overrun from the original estimate of $250M.  Oops!!!
Onwards to see the Golden Gate Bridge tomorrow!
