Spring break ~ The Farm (Mar 26)

This past Spring Break, I decided that we should visit an old golfing friend of mine.  She now lives in Paris, KY - on her horse farm. It's been over 15 years since I last saw her, so this will be a fun and exciting trip!

We stopped in a little town for a quick early dinner.  Looks like we stumbled upon a collection of amazing murals in this town! But first, Graham and Charlie are so excited to play the arcade for free at the restaurant. Daddy and Mommy are able to sit down with zero distractions. Win-win!!
This was the largest mural of all.  It's on the entire building!
Across the street - it's like a car coming out of the wall of flowers:
This one is probably one of my favorites.  So pretty!
There are murals everywhere!
Even towards the back of the buildings:
It's making me think about what sort of mural I want to have at our house.  Ha ha!
And this is the town we're in - Rensselaer, in Indiana.  Notice there's also graphics that's within the alphabets too!
I love these flowers!
Okay, we are continuing on our driving and decided on some smoothies before getting to our hotel.  Hmmm, I'm not exactly sure what was in these smoothies.  They looked awful the next morning. Blah!
Today, we are crossing into Kentucky! There seems to be a lot of bridges:
Getting close to the farm and there's so much green space around here. It's so serene:
We-fie with Allie!!
What an amazing barn! I need to figure out how to hang stuff like in this tack room :-)
The horses are beautiful:
It took a little while but Charlie was finally brave enough to give the horses some snacks:
A lot of the horses belonged to her clients.  No horse riding today!

So much space to roam around:
Graham was able to pet the 3-week old baby horse.  Awwww...!
Yes, she has chickens!  She said she gets 2 eggs every day :-)
Boys were having fun chasing all the animals around the farm:
Apart from the horses, I think there were 4 dogs, about 7 or 8 cats, 5 or 6 goats, the 2 chickens, and 2 ducklings. Henrietta the goat was Bobby's favorite.  Or should I say, Bobby was Henrietta's favorite - since he was the one carrying the back of snacks :-)  I never thought I'd ever see Bobby feeding a goat!
And Nubby the dog was Charlie's favorite :-D
Allie is fixing up the apartment above the barn, so in the meantime, she is in a camper.  Graham and Charlie are feeling quite comfortable in this cozy space:
Charlie is having too much fun with Nubby!
What a great reunion!
It's too bad it's so windy out. So instead of a cookout, we opted for just some fried chicken tonight. Another quick view of the surroundings before we head over to Georgetown (the next town over) for our overnight.  We plan on visiting Allie again the following afternoon:
Georgetown is a cute little town.  And who knew it was the birthplace of Bourbon, back in 1769!!
Here's the little building where Rev. Elijah Craig created the first bourbon and is also noted that he is the founder of Georgetown:
Georgetown College - Founded 1829:
I'm guessing these are probably some original advertising on the building:
Driving towards Paris and we are entering Bourbon County!
Here's a quick glimpse of Allie's barn from afar:
Graham and Charlie are already feeling very comfortable in the barn.  Graham did well with his mask on due to his allergies:
By the end of yesterday, the boys already knew all the names of the animals.  Ha!

On Day 2, they got to meet the 2 little ducklings:
Much easier to pet the duck when we have a helper :-)
We could definitely be here for a little bit.... no traffic, no distractions:
Okay, the only distraction is when the boys try to chase the animals, again!  Ha ha!
It's not as windy today but still a tad chilly.  So Bobby is in charge of getting the fire in the chimenea started:
And then, also grilling burgers.  We are definitely putting Bobby to work here :-)
All the animals have gathered near the grill area. LOL!!!
A friend of Allie's came over and brought along a tray of more food. Yummm...!!
I actually had to shoo the chicken away from getting onto the table! It was too funny!  The chickens are not afraid to get close and personal, especially when there is food available.  Check out this chicken - it jumped on the chair!
One more look at the Momma horse and it's baby.  Charlie and I were making all sorts of noises to have them come closer. Ha ha!
Thank you Allie for such an awesome time at your farm!!
Before leaving Georgetown, we thought we'd check the Quilt Show but the building was closed. Bummer!
We opted for ice cream instead.  Looks like a lot of other people had the same idea:
We definitely have too much sugar in our diet!
I think this mural definitely sums up this area of farms and horses:
We went to an Asian restaurant for dinner.  The meal itself was just so- so, but the decor with all these hanging lanterns was pretty neat for at least a photo op :-)
Oh, Graham and Charlie were all amused by the fancy Japanese toilet in the restroom.  Ha ha!

Another spectacular mural. Looks like there are murals everywhere!
There are a few other friends that were all playing golf during the same time as me and Allie.  Hopefully next year we can put together another reunion - how fun will that be! It will definitely be a bit tricky, as we have one in Australia, another in Spain, one in California, Georgia, and then us in Illinois. Phew!

I'm so glad the boys had a great time.  Charlie still can't stop talking about Nubby. He actually wants to buy Nubby from Allie! I don't think he is for sale though. We'll just have to look out for a dog that's a Labrador and Corgi mix.  I was surprised though at how the dogs did not shed hardly any fur at all! Interesting!

Onward to Louisville, KY for a day and then Cincinnati, OH the following day, and then finally to Indianapolis, IN to round out our trip before heading back home. So far, definitely a good start to our Spring Break! :-)

To be continued...
