Christmas adventure - Tide pools

One of Bobby's friend suggested we visit a tide pool at White Point Park in San Pedro.  What a place! Here is the drive down to it:
Charlie falls asleep in the car... again!  Thankfully it wasn't too difficult to wake him up.
And they are off!
It doesn't take us long to spot a sea anemone:
By the way, I am trying to figure out how to spell "anemone" and there is actually a flower with the same name.  Th Anemone flower is part of the buttercup family. Who knew!

Next, lots of hermit crabs!!!  Charlie is almost afraid to step on these:
But he has found a stick to poke at them:
It's like walking on Mars here, not like I would know but it sure feels like it :-)
The texture on the rocks are amazing!
This section is a bit tricky as no one wants to get their shoes wet!
More sea anemones!!!
So much more!!!
Bobby is keeping a close eye from the top of the hill:
The view from up there is pretty.  This place is spectacular!
Look!  A shiny rock! :-)  Hmm... not exactly sure what it is but it must not be worth anything if it is still sitting on the ground.  Or is it???!  The closest I found on the internet is a Obsidian - which is natural occurring volcanic glass.  Volcano???!
Moving on... we finally spot some fish!  Little ones but fish nonetheless:
Graham is so quick on his feet with these rocks, but why is he always dragging his feet and falling when he runs???!!
We then find a fish that is stuck in a small tide pool:
I try to pick it up and throw it to the other side:
But it splashes away!
I am obviously not very good at handling live fish!  The fish did seem sick as it just sort of laid on its side. And you wouldn't believe how quickly those hermit crabs started going for it.  CRAZY!!! It's like National Geographic right in front of our very eyes!!!

Okay, I may be exaggerating, but wow - I never expected those little hermit crabs to be so aggressive. Makes me think twice when I step on those rocks now. HA HA!

Family photo op!
Well, sort of.  The boys wanted to wander some more.  Graham practices on his yoga poses :-)
We were almost getting back to our vehicle when two Marine Animal Rescue trucks pull up.  Looks like someone called in about a seal pup on the rocks.  How did we miss that!  Supposedly Charlie had mentioned it to Bobby but he sort of dismissed Charlie.  Nice one, Daddy :-P
And so off we went back to just about where we were before:
Wow, that seal pup is good at camouflaging!
It's amazing how swift these guys are.  The one guy barely had the net up and he quickly threw it right over the pup.  Didn't take them too long to get that pup back to the truck:
What an adventure on Christmas Day for us!  We admire the sunset before leaving:
So pretty.  Okay, just one more sunset photo with a couple of people fishing:
I would say this was a pretty successful Christmas!
