Goat sketching (Sept 27)

I was trying to figure out what to give to my friend who owns the farm.  She was nice enough to let me sell my kokedama this past summer on her property during her Saturday Market.  After some though, I decided to present her with a sketching of her goats!

Well, I've never sketched before.  So,... this was going to be quite the challenge!  But first, some photos of the goats to help me with it :-)
Aren't they the cutest?!
A little bit of practice.  Not too shabby!
Okay... getting somewhere  :-)
It was actually pretty interesting to watch some videos online on all the different techniques for sketching.  The different tones of black and of course, smudging.  That was actually Bobby's idea!
Not so keen on the dirty finger after though.  Ha ha!  But okay, here's the practice sketch done:
Did you know that goats actually have like rectangle irises?!  It is really bizarre!!

Time to sketch the real thing now.  It was really tricky trying to get the goat's head to be longer.  But after a few tries, I managed!
Trying to shade the different black with just 1 pencil is actually quite tricky.  Makes me appreciate how the "real" artist do it, especially when they sketch so well:
Trying to get ideas on how to incorporate their logo:
Almost done, just need a touch of color with the logo I think:
Ta da!!!
Thought it was a nice touch to frame it too. I think it turned out quite well!  Actually quite proud of myself.  It turned out so much better than I had expected.  I really should have signed it in the front, vs the card that I stuck to the back of the frame.  Anyhow, so glad she loved it too! :-)
Well, here's the last of the kokedama on the final market day.
Not sure what the plans are yet for my Plants & Paint small biz for next year.  I haven't really been advertising for work lately.  Right now, I've been focusing on teaching golf and trying to promote some themed events and also finding more women to teach.  It haven't been easy but hopefully some perseverance will pay off soon!
