After some research, I find out that it is the opening day for the local outdoor ice-skating rink. Let's go! Some interesting sights along the way :-)
Outdoor chess - no touchie Charlie!!!
Maybe we will check The Money Museum on the way back?
We find a Denver "bull" next to a Christmas market:
Found the ice-skating rink! The boys are so excited. This will be their first time on any form of skates!
Thumbs up and ready!!!
Thankfully there were some skating aids and Graham caught on pretty quickly:
After viewing the video, Graham said he skates like a penguin. HAHA! And Charlie tries to skate along the wall. A bit tricky with other beginners trying to do the same:
Graham takes a few falls but thankfully gets right back up with no complaints and no fear of skating again:Break time!
Proof that Mommy was skating too :-P
Watching the Zamboni is always a treat for Graham and Charlie:
Once the ice was cleaned up, the boys were at it again. We probably spent 2 hours at the rink. What a fun day!
The backpack was probably happy to be out of the squished locker :-D
We hit the Christmas market where the boys admire some chocolate:
We also find the largest Advent Calendar ever!Graham buys a souvenir from a Russian store-keeper:
Another photo op with the blue bull!
On the way back to the hotel, we have a few minutes to stop by the Federal Reserve Bank:
Yay on free admission!
Charlie runs away with a bag of shredded money:
Who would have known that so much money gets shredded every day - 320,000 notes of unfit currency or $2.2 million! EVERY DAY!!! And it all gets processed and ends up as compost. Who knew!
Checking out the display of money:
I had to do a selfie with $30 million dollars!!!
It was a quick tour and once done, we headed back to the hotel where Daddy picked us up. We decided to drive out to see the Red Rocks. It was only about a 30 min drive out of the city:
Some snow on the mountains and soon enough, the scenery changes:
Hole!
These Red Rocks are so neat!
Graham obviously walked out of the car without his sweater again:
Photo op!
Graham and Charlie are so excited about the little bit of snow, as Daddy throws some over their heads:
Here is the view of the amphitheater from above:
I wonder how they discovered this place, like someone was looking at this rocks and said, "You know what, this is a perfect spot for a music amphitheater!" Maybe that's how it happened :-D
The sun is setting and you can sort of see downtown Denver:
A memorial to the people that built this amphitheater, or as the boys thought I said "empty theater". HAHA!
Who knew it was completed back in the early 1940s! Somehow it doesn't feel that old:
We had to take a photo by the hole in the wall!
There was still some sunlight left so we decided to take a little walk:
What a neat trail! Too bad we didn't have enough time to go on it more. I would hate to make the news the next day, if you know what I mean!Random act of affection??! Just so you know, it didn't last long!
Somehow we didn't notice the steep angle and ravine going the one direction but now it is an issue for Charlie going back??!
We drive back to downtown and notice the pretty building lit up for Christmas:
One down! Except we haven't had dinner yet:
Thankfully there are plenty of restaurants nearby the hotel so we treat ourselves to a lovely steak dinner and also dessert at the end, of course:
The next morning, Daddy has a work interview to conduct at a restaurant. Mommy decides to try the bison pot roast... not too bad!
After lunch, we are off to the airport. Despite not flying for so long now, these boys are now pros:
It is the day before Thanksgiving so we are at the airport SUPER early. But there is hardly anyone at our terminal! How can that be??! We find a restaurant upstairs and the boys just play around the walkscalator:
Fun times in Denver!
