After checking out of Legoland, we hopped into the car and drove back to the house. We dropped off the dirty laundry and picked up our pre-sorted warm clothing for Denver. Daddy has work there and since Graham and Charlie are off from school the same week, we decided to all join him. So off to LAX! We got there extra early not knowing how the traffic would be:
Charlie is still riding on the luggage:
Graham is still weighing himself on the luggage scale:
The boys want Daddy to sit with them and you probably know why - because Daddy doesn't complain about how long they are on their tablets!
Denver airport and we are ready to go outside!
We stay at a hotel downtown and it comes with a pull-out couch. So glad the boys didn't fool around too much at night being in the same bed. I can't really say the same during the day:
As usual, while Daddy is at work, we head out to play! The Denver Museum of Natural History is a few minutes away by cab:
A T-Rex greets us right as we step in. Impressive!!!
There is a real mummy as well, which I didn't take a photo of. Just something not right about taking photos of a dead person - especially one that is thousands of years old! There was a computer flat screen that the kids could explore - displaying a 3-D image of the skeletal structure of the mummy. What neat technology:
The animal displays here are so impressive as well. I especially love the 180 degree background drawing. So much work!
As I said, really impressive! The surroundings are so realistic:
There was also a special exhibit by a Russian artist. I don't remember the name of the artist now but his work was really neat. He creates sculptures using different gems. So amazing!
Every single bit of the sculpture is a gem. The list of gems are listed below each work:
Okay, moving on! More dinosaur findings... I'm not exactly sure if these are real or if the items are plastered. Hmmm... still fun for the boys and me though :-)
Crazy to think these animals used to exist. YIKES!
Charlie with his "astonished" look:
More things to be amazed yet!
This museum does not disappoint!
Here are some people at work at the museum. I believe most of them are volunteers. Maybe when the boys are older I could venture into something like this??!
The museum had a special exhibit called the Mindbender Mansion:
This section had lots of games and puzzles for the kids to play. Most of them were really tricky!
Even something as simple as trying to build a pyramid with 3 blocks! And as simple as this one was, we couldn't do it either. Ha Ha!
Lunch time!
The recycling by the food court is just as impressive! It even comes with a self-compacting compost bin!!!
We are off to Mars of the future!
Then, another section of more gems and gold. Of course all I could do was admire...
Look! Alebrijes!!! These are Mexican folk art sculptures of mythical creatures. The only reason I know this is because the boys made these in their art class this year and I was volunteering in their class then:More amazing scenery with animals:
Please remind us never to ever meet a bear! Graham has both of his hands on ONE bear paw!!!
Once we are through with the animals section, there is an exhibit on Cuba. Graham is having fun with some music instruments:
Perhaps someday we will get to visit Cuba. From what I have heard and seen, they are still driving these old cars!
Okay, 5 hours later... we are all done! Phew!!!
Pretty scenery not too far from the museum. We are waiting for Daddy to pick us up:
Daddy made it! And we spot a Brontosaurus on the way out - what a treat for Daddy since he missed everything else in the museum!
For dinner, we head off to a place called the Dairy Block. We later find out that it is run by one chef:
While the boys are playing free games on the pinball machine...
Daddy scouts out the area including this pasta section. All freshly made!
So basically this one chef has created a variety of restaurants in this entire place. We obviously admired him too much while he was making fresh pasta because... TADA!!!
Chef Frank Bonanno came looking for us with a fresh plate of pasta! We obviously at this point did not know that he owned this entire place. So after being told this guy ran the whole place, we had to find him with our empty plate and get our photo taken!
