Road trip: NJ to IL (Dec 2025)

For some reason, I thought I had posted these - but looks like I didn't! This was from our road trip from New Jersey back to IL (after Christmas).

Hmm, I can't remember what this bridge is now. Ha!
More bridges - somewhere between NJ and DC.  Ha!
OMG, I've never seen these before - spicy skittles?!
By the way, did you see our stash yet from Wegman's in NJ?  Lots of pasta again, as usual! :-)
We finally get to DC - to eat the wagyu burger from a particular restaurant from 2 years ago. But first, wait... there's a new pasta restaurant within the building now??
And lobster rolls??! No way!
Yummmm.... Charlie and I went with the warm roll:
 And lobster mac-n-cheese :-)
Graham ordered some fresh pasta with sausage. Super yummy too!
And here's the burger - still so good after all these years!
Ha ha, I think Bobby's expression tells all!
How did we become such foodies?!  LOL!!
Totally worth the drive!
We get to stay at a fancier hotel tonight. Graham still has his whale!
Pretty:
Just one quick night in DC:
Look, our own little Christmas tree in the bedroom!
Charlie discovered the bathrobe in the room - along with the shower cap. This kid, I tell you!
The next morning, a quick walk to a museum near the White House:
Made it!
One more photo, including me :-D
Squirrel!
Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum - we needed something small for a quick tour. Best of all, it was free!
The theme for the displays are items from previous State Fairs.  There were definitely some interesting things - like a dress made up of butter stick cartons:
This weaving is amazing!
I think it was pine needles:
The person that did this used different colors to project different temperatures during different parts of the year.  Talk about dedication and patience in creating this patchwork:
So many buttons!
Fish dangling on string - almost like a school project - but obviously at a much larger scale:
These paintings are pretty amazing - all made from different types of seeds:
Yes, all from seeds. Impressive!
Close up:
Okay, up the stairs for more displays:
This was an interesting room:
Corn?  Seriously?!
Maybe a tad corn-y?? Get it? Ha!

Ok, now we're talking.  A cow made out of butter??!!
In its own refrigerated display case:
Pretty impressive!
Seems like a waste of butter though.  Ha!
Okay, winner of the canning category?!
It's amazing what you can put in a jar.  I want to know what's the green stuff!??
Boys are back at the giant corn exhibit.  Ha ha!
I had to take a work call.  Boys are happily posing in front of the White House :-)
You can see the Washington Monument in the distance:
By the way, it's been super windy:
Time for lunch!  I thought this sign was funny :-)
Interesting Club Sandwich:
And it was served cold - totally NOT what Charlie nor  I were expecting!
Back to the hotel to pack up and head out to Harrisburg, PA.  But first, warming up by the fake fire. Ha!
Graham - always time to play his Switch:
Next stop - Utz outlet in Hanover, PA:
We discovered Utz chips recently at the supermarket, and now - here we are, seeing what else they offer at their Outlet:
So much to choose from!
Happy family. Here's our loot! :-D
Time for a smoothie before we hit the road again:
It's sooooooo cold. Glad I'm not the one pumping gas. LOL!
By night, we meet up with the Gon's family at a Korean BBQ/Hot Pot restaurant. We were friends back in California - so glad we were able to meet up halfway!
All the kids are growing up so fast:
And here are the kids from 2 years ago when we met in Gettysburg, PA:
We are so stuffed from the yummy food"
Probably the best meal so far. I know, even better than the wagyu beef burger.  I do LOVE hot pots!

The next day, we start our drive back to IL  But first, Daddy is insistent on finding this family farm. During checkout, I notice a little sign that says, FREE Lunch!
And wow, as simple as it was, the hot loaded baked potato was super yummy!!
And Graham has found the farm.  O.M.G, those piggies are so huge!
Yeah.... this would be me, just wanting to sleep. LOL!
Look at these cows - they are the cutest things!
Awwww....
Ha, Graham has been carrying his little birdie around and taking photos with it for size comparison:
By the way, it's so cold out and Graham is out in the farm with just a sweater. I did get him to pose for a photo.  He is obviously not very amused. Ha!
Some snow but thankfully nothing too much:
Driving through some tunnels:
Almost home!
Dirty car! Although, after a few more snow storms recently, this is not the worst I've seen of my car:
Snow when we left, snow in NJ, and snow back home again.  Ahhhhh...!!!
I have to say, this was a pretty fun trip.  We do love being on the road!
