Just before the end of the summer holidays, we decided to visit Grandma and Pop-pop in New Jersey. Well, "we" as in just me and the boys. Poor Daddy just started a new job so he couldn't get away. Yup, another new job - that's 3 different job within the 2 years that we are here in Los Angeles!
Boys are saying goodbye to Daddy at the airport:
Right as we clear security, there is a piano on the level above. Charlie did not hesitate one bit to play on it!
We grab dinner at one of the restaurants since we are still fairly early for our flight:
And then we find out that our flight is delayed and we will not be making our connection in Sacramento. So, we head off to the airline counter to sort that out. Thank goodness for tablets!
We end up changing our flight to a direct red-eye flight to New Jersey. 3 more hours to kill at the airport!
So we get desert at a different restaurant:
We play some Uno:
We go buy some things - most expensive layover yet and we haven't even left LAX!!!
And then, we just chill until it is time to board:
More tablet time by the gate. A lady earlier did comment about how well the boys were behaving. I think it's obvious why!!?
On the plane finally!!!
No TV screens behind the seats but you are able to put your own tablet or phone on it:
I let the boys play until the plane doors shut. It didn't take long for them to fall asleep! And I am glad they didn't complain either. By then, it was already really late and I was ready to sleep too! Although I probably only slept for about 3-4 hours. I totally forgot about my compression socks and also some eye shades. I bit out of touch with traveling on an airplane! But thankfully the boys slept most of the way.
It was neat to see the Freedom Tower peeking through the fog during descend:
We arrive at around 7am and by the time we get to Grandma and Pop-pop's house, it doesn't take long to open up some pressies. These were actually from Uncle Doug, who recently traveled to China visiting Matthew. What neat things in the airline toiletry bag!
We have the usual suspect toys and the boys still love playing with them:
There are some breaks to eat - including feeding Pop-pop some watermelon:
Trying to avoid tablet time so we play some Jenga:
We also bought a jigsaw puzzle. Doing pretty well for the day!
After an early dinner, Charlie decided to tuck himself in on the couch and totally fell asleep!
A great first day in NJ! Come to realize, we haven't traveled since last year, which was also to NJ for Grandma and Pop-pop's wedding anniversary. The boys haven't missed a beat with traveling so I am so glad about that.
To be continued...
