Started out of Dallas this morning, heading towards Kansas City... and it basically just rained ALL day long. So I finally got tired of the rain... and tired of only being able to drive at 55-60mph... so I decided to stop over in this little town called Blackwell, OK. The city only has a total area of 5.5 square miles, with the population of 7,800.
As I'm checking into the hotel here, the local tv news is on - reporting on possible tornadoes touching down and strong winds in Oklahoma county. Yikes! And I was there just a couple of hours ago! The hotel attendant then proceeds to tell me that if the sirens go off tonight, just come down to the lobby with a blanket. And use the stairs, not the elevators. Grrrreeeaaat...! I suppose I can't forget my passport either!
On my way through Kansas City today, I decided to stop by in Shawnee, OK to see a friend that also plays on the FUTURES Tour. Stephanie's grandfather passed away last sunday and the service was at 2pm in Shawnee, OK - about 1/2 hour away from OK city. Ben Dee Curtis was 86 years old. Included in the program was this poem, which hit near to my heart...
-- To Those I Love --
When I am gone, release me, let me go,
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tear,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess,
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled on alone.
So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for awhile that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on,
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near,
And if you listen to your heart, you'll hear.
All of my love around you soft and clear,
And then, when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile, and "Welcome Home."
